Prof. dr. Bernard M.J. Uitdehaag (1958) studied medicine in Nijmegen and was trained in neurology in Amsterdam. In Amsterdam he was also trained in epidemiology.
He is involved in MS research since 1985 and did his PhD in MS research in 1998.
In 2009 he became professor of clinical neuro-epidemiology and in 2010 chair of the department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam.
In 2013 he became professor of Neurology and chair of the Department of Neurology at the VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam. In the same year he also became Director of the MS Center Amsterdam.
In 2018, the two academic hospitals in Amsterdam (VU University Medical Center and Academic Medical Center) were merged at the level of the board. From January 2019, Bernard Uitdehaag is chair of the department of Neurology in both academic hospitals.
Between 2006 and 2014 he was member of the board of the Netherlands Society of Neurology, being president from 2011 until 2014.
He (co-)authored around 350 scientific papers.
